Different Types of Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is a mental training practice that involves paying attention to your body. It also includes breathing practice and mental imagery. MARC’s website defined mindfulness as “Paying attention to present moment experiences with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to be with what is. It is an excellent antidote to the stresses of modern times. Mindfulness can be trained systematically, and can be implemented in daily life, by people of any age, profession or background.”
Concentration meditation is often called one-pointedness of mind because it is all about forcing the mind to focus on one specific thing. You can, for example, repeat a mantra out loud or focus on one object without interruption. It is definitely the perfect practice if you want to quiet your mind.
Finally, guided meditation is when you are guided by a narrator. You can do it with an individual coach or by using a recording from a local library, a bookstore, or an app. This is the perfect type of meditation if you are looking to change something in your life. It will help you to reprogram your mind by accessing your subconscious mind and give it a new and better experience.
I have never meditated, how do I start?
It’s not easy to start meditating, so it’s normal if you aren’t good at the beginning! But you can start with little steps and get better and better as you practice.
We suggest you a guided meditation that you can watch it HERE and we will also give you some tips for mindfulness meditation that won’t make you an expert, but that will help you get started by yourself. Check them out:
- Find a quiet place;
- Sit comfortably in a meditation chair or cushion;
- Close your eyes;
- Count your breaths and focus on your body;
- Smile when you’re done.
Keep this practice for two to three minutes to start. Then, increase by another two minutes and do that for a week. If all goes well, you can try it for longer periods. But remember, start small first.
You can do it before bed! Put on a quiet song, take a deep breath and slowly try to empty your head slowly. It will help you focus on the moment, without life’s distractions.
